For those that want to get to know me, here's a part of my story.
Everyone has an interesting story to tell. A story about
encounters, insights, observations, and turning points in your life when you decided to take a particular path.
This is a glimpse of my story about how, in addition to acting and modeling, I felt called to work as a wellness coach and facilitator to help others achieve a healthier body, mind, and spirit.
Since childhood I've had various ailments including intestinal problems, migraines, and skin issues.
I suffered from severe eczema to the point where I couldn't turn my head because of open wounds on my neck. Things improved from time to time over the years, but often only for a short period.
I was raised with a healthy lifestyle. I ate a balanced diet, and consistently exercised.
As I grew older I began to adopt unhealthy habits; I regularly over consumed sugar, caffeine, smoking tobacco, marijuana, alcohol and other recreational drugs. Alongside all of this during a period of time I almost never exercised.
At 21 years old, in 2001, I was shocked by my persistent exhaustion on a working holiday in Australia. My quest to embody the best version of myself began after buying a health book “Health = Energy”. As a result, I began to study the relationship between diet, breathing, movement and mental health. This led me to start practicing meditation, conscious breathing as well as inspiring an increased awareness of my diet.
At the time, I was able to feel the physical and mental benefits, but being young and easily seduced by my old lifestyle, habits and environment, I strayed from my path regularly.
Eventually It became clear that neither gluten nor lactose are well tolerated by my body. From that point forward, I had to avoid both in order to function normally. That concept took some getting used to, but it also motivated me to read more books, articles, and watch more health-related videos.
I collapsed at the age of 30 due to a culmination of emotional trauma. Alongside the high demands and expectations that I placed upon myself I was also grieving the loss of my older brother. As a result I was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue and burnout. Aside from nutrition, I began to rediscover the concept of a mindful life. A life in which conscious and healthy choices are a priority. To this day, I continue to dedicate myself to this.
Although my health improved at certain moments, eventually things got worse.
There had to be something more to it. After 3.5 years of battling chronic fatigue, body aches and the need to sleep the majority of the time, a friend suggested a raw vegan diet.
Being under the impression animal products were a necessity, I was willing to try anything to improve my condition. After a few months, I began to notice a difference and gradually began to feel better. That was a solid foundation to build on. However, much more was required for recovery.
A number of people informed me about others with similar symptoms that turned out to be Lyme disease. When a friend called to tell me he had Lyme disease I saw the similarity between our symptoms so I began investigating. Eventually, I was diagnosed with Lyme disease in several countries, which explained a lot about where my complaints came from and why I only felt good with a healthy lifestyle.
I researched every aspect of Lyme disease and did every possible thing to remove it from my system. Because of my diet, food supplements, breathing exercises, yoga and exploring numerous treatments with various therapists and practitioners, my health continued to improve significantly. After 4 years it was possible to return to work as an actor. With a new ability to pursue my dream , I began working two jobs simultaneously. One job acting in GTST (a Dutch soap opera) and another in the musical The Bodyguard (as the body-guard). I also had the privilege to be on the cover of the “Mens Health” magazine with a 9 page interview.
I was honored to be invited to write the forewords for two health books;
The first Dutch translation of Anthony William's book ‘Medical Medium’.
And “fruit jezelf gezond en slank” from Julia Kang. (+ a chapter about my path)
The quest for optimal health and lifestyle is a huge passion of mine.
